This project began as a dirty black rusty heavy metal toolbox from an auction of the household of three generations of hoarders. I have no idea how old it is, but I loved the weight and the closure, so I bought it. It was washed thoroughly with alcohol and then painted with a thin coat of white gesso. I ran a texture comb over the top in waves for some interest. The first application I put a TH stencil on the top and liberally poured Saleboat Blue all over the stencil and tapped all over thoroughly with a felt applicator. I dried it a bit with a cool dryer, then peeled off the stencil, where the ink had run all over underneath, and dried it the rest of the way. The next day I sponged more Sailboat Blue over the rest of the box and then went over with blender ink. The second color is Mermaid and I used a different stencil only to get spots of color here and there, and also dabbed in the sides and bottom. Then a third stencil with Patina, this one just in middle of the lid. Then a fourth stencil with Purple Twilight, and only in the corners. I think that's all I want to do on the outside. Tomorrow I will start the inside and see what ideas crop up, although I'm sure vintage book pages will be involved. Sorry for the long explanation and TFL.

It is beautiful. Love that blue. Looks like great texture with the stencils and all the layers. Have fun doing the inside, because it sounds like you are having fun doing this altered project.

Wow! You did a fabulous job transforming this old metal box into a multi-media wonder. Love the bright blue. This is now a treasure box; what will you keep in it? Smile. Thanks for sharing the end result.
Great job! TFS
