Made as a Design Team card for Try Stampin' -Or Not- On Tuesday sketch challenged #324: http://trystampinontuesday.blogspot.com/ with an optional challenge element to include "shades of one color".
The sketch required a round feature in the lower right with a horizontal element running behind it. When I saw it, I just couldn't get a hot air balloon out of my mind, so went with the new Stampin' Up Occassions 2017 "Lift Me Up" bundle of stamps and matching dies.
Since purple and aqua are my favorite colors, my designing mind quickly led me to my paper scraps folder full of luscious shades of purples. I wanted a light pattern background for the sky, so pulled out my retired Subtles Print Sampler 6"x6" paper stack and found this beautiful Wisteria Wonder swirly pattern.
The hot air balloon is die cut from Elegant Eggplant cardstock, and pieced from behind with all sorts of purple shades from scraps I had. I felt the basket should be more of a "basket color", so used Daffodil Delight. I think it adds a nice contrast to all the purples.
The clouds were die cut using the dies from the same "Up & Away" thinlits bundled with the "Lift Me Up" stamp set I used for the birthday sentiment. The long white clouds were glued down with Tombow glue, then the smaller clouds (which were stamped off using Elegant Eggplant before stamping on my white scrap) were mounted on top of the long clouds using double-stack Mini Glue Dots to raise them up between the long clouds and the balloon itself. I wanted to achieve a 3D effect.
I used the SU stamp positioner to get the birthday greeting down into the left corner straight (always a challenge for me!). Then attached the balloon using Adhesive Foam Strips.
The card was pretty easy to make, so I'm giving it a difficulty rating of "2". There really wasn't a "hard" part to the card after the idea popped into my head and I settled on purple :-D
