I needed a birthday card for a friend who doesn't like frilly feminine stuff, so I made her what I would normally consider a masculine or guy card. I used the color combo from this week's CCC challenge (as close as I could get without official SU supplies but I think I did pretty good) and the Mojo Monday sketch from this week as well.
I layered the purple patterned paper on a plain white card and added the purple and indigo layers and then cut out the banner.
I was particularly proud of reaching back to my high school geometry learning to draw guidelines on the back for hand cutting the bottom of the banner (full disclosure: this was after a couple of freehand cutting disasters before I figured this out!)
I experimented with a bunch of candle stickers that coordinated with the stars but it just wasn't working, so I went with the simple greeting, grunged up the edges of the banner to add some dimension since I couldn't pop it up and have the stars go over the edges like I wanted. Finished with the star stickers and gold rickrack for the "dessert" since I didn't have any gold twine or thread.
One of those cards I didn't love when I finished it but put it aside and came back to it this morning and decided it was pretty good after all!

It's more than pretty good. Great job with this color challenge. And a great job cutting the bottom of the banner. That's not always easy. Love your gold rik rak.

More than "pretty good" I think it's great, love the background designed paper and the gold rick rack trim at the top. A little trick with cutting the tails on banners is to mark the center then cut up from each corner to the center mark. Great card.
