Sabrina's Challenge - Festive Paper lanterns - so I decided to make the entire card a lantern since My son (who I adopted in Japan 49 years ago) and his wife who is from Taiwan, China along with their 2 children, always go all out for Chinese New Year.
I digitally composed the 2017 year of the rooster design then printed to heavy red vellum. I scored that piece at quarter inch intervals and die cut with the scalloped oval. I also die cut my white cardbase with a hinged side then overlayed the vellum piece and finished with a gold base / top and gold cording for a hangar.

How cool that you made the whole card a lantern, Linda, and what a perfect one for your son. The scalloped oval really adds to the crimped effect, very clever!!! I'm glad people seem to be enjoying the challenge, it's one I've sat on the fence on for about two years now... Thanks for letting me know that it's the Year of the Rooster coming up .
When I was in my last two years of school we had a quite a few Chinese Malaysian students, and I was lucky enough to get invited to attend a Chinese New Year in Malaysia Hall (their cultural centre) with them. Yum yum!!

Hi, I know you don't know me...I use to be on here a few years back...It has been a while since I have made a card.....I ran across your card and instantly fell in love with it...I have a collection of roosters in my kitchen and a girlfriend gave me a beautiful set of rooster placemats for my table....I would like to print out your beautiful card here if you don't mind...and cut it out and paste it on cardstock and put it in my kitchen....It is a very unique card...Thank You
