Alphabet Challenge - Letter Y: yellow, young girl, yarn, thank YOU. Bonus Challenge -to make Your own challenge for Yourself. I challenged myself to use up old paper and use only the colors in the design (plus essential neutrals).
Ways to Use It Challenge honoring the fairy tales of Hans Christian Anderson. This is the fairy story of my card: Mr. Anderson's story of the Little Match Girl who tried to sell matches in the cold winter touched the heart of a young girl. She decided to sell flowers in the springtime to give the money for the poor to be warm in the winter. Alas, her flowers were nothing special and no one would buy them. One day she came upon a lonely creature that was so sad & weary. The young girl took pity on him and put him in her wagon. Lo & behold, it was a magical creature who spoke to her. He said that no one had ever shown him so much kindness. He wanted to return the benevolence, upon one condition that she would only speak two words to him and nothing more. The young girl said "Thank You". Suddenly, a special necklace appeared around her neck. The creature told her to always wear it, never sell it or give it away. She wanted to ask why but she had already spoken her words. From that day on, the young girl wore the necklace every day and her flowers were the most beautiful in all the land. Everyone bought some. She was so happy to be able to give so much to the poor. Now, every time she thinks of the magical creature, she whispers softly to herself "Thank you".

Diane, your story touched my heart. So lovely! This is a beautiful card too and you have depicted the story so well (or was it the other way around, that the story dictated the image?) Anyway, this little girl is so sweet and I love wooden wheelbarrows. I love how you challenged yourself and that fibre is a great addition.

So many great details here - her out-of-the box hair, her little sparkling necklace (I'm sure there's a story with a magical necklace in my Flower Fairy book, too), and I love the use of yarn on this.

You have made a simply wonderful card Diane that fits both challenges so beautifully. I completely forgot about this incredible fairy tale and it was so much fun to read about it again. The power of "thank you" is amazing and that is shown so beautifully in this tale. You have created such a charming card based on this fairy tale Diane. This little lass is as sweet as sweet can be with her wheel barrow full of pretty posies. And this darling little hedgie riding in the wheel barrow is so delightful too. You really "hit this one out of the ballpark" my friend! Hugs! ~Karen.
