This the anniversary card I made for DH this year. I found an interesting background in my stash - I have no idea how it was created in the first place, but it was a nice masculine shade of gray. Wrinkle free distress with who knows what gray ink, I think.
I applied Ferro paste through the stencil, but I didn't like the color and quickly applied a sparkly silver ep on top. I heat set it immediately so the paste underneath would bubble and provide additional texture. There were some darker areas of the gray color that I wasn't crazy about, so I ran it under water and used a soft toothbrush to scrub some of it away, pilling the paper in the process. Then I thought I would put the stencil back over the embossing and apply some red Inka Gold - bad idea. I rubbed as much off as I could and then used a wet paintbrush to try to remove the rest. This resulted in the lovely color you see adorning the upper left corner. THEN, I didn't have the right silver paper to use for a mat, so I decided gold would do. That meant I needed to add some gold to the focal piece. I used shimmer watercolors, then needed to add shimmer to the rest so the gold didn't look weird. I threw so much water on this poor piece it literally took three days under stacked books to dry, but you can't tell where the paper pilled anymore, he he!
Finished up with a shadowed die cut, the gold mat and a cream card base. I think this was a Susie adventure!
As always, thanks for looking!

Loved this from first seeing it! Then read your description! You had me laughing out loud! First of all, I am glad to know I am not the only one to have backgrounds laying around, that I have no idea how they're made! LOL. I can't tell you how many times have I made something, and then didn't have the right paper. Loved hearing about your creative process. I love your card. Happy 27th!

Oh my gosh, don't know which I like better, your card or description! BOTH I think! The colors are magnificent! I love that you don't quit- not ever and not on anything. Just an amazing background, pilled or not. This could not be duplicated in 100 tries. It's these wonders you create but fidgeting with it that drew me to your work in the first place.

Sometimes cards seem to take on a life of their own. The quick action with sparkly EP and the bubbles from the heat added so much to the design. Luv the colors and beautiful back ground.

What a process - but what a wonderfully beautiful end result, Jody. It's so soft looking. I love the effect of the embossing powder and texture paste. I like all the grey in this - normally I see too much of it in the skies here, but this is soft and gentle. Hope you had a lovely anniversary celebration.

Now Jody, here is the secret to mixed media...you pretend that every "oh s#?&" moment was an "exactly what I intended" moment. This is just lovely. The colors are so pretty and soft, and look perfect with the gold and silver. Happy Anniversary.

Thank goodness for Favs of the Week or I might have missed this gem! Wow what an adventure you and this card have been on. I loved reading about the process, that was a gutsy effort to put it under running water and use a tooth brush. I love every inch of this Jody.
