This card features these gorgeous Hero Arts succulents. I saw a video recently where the individual colored directly on watercolor paper with their distress crayons – I used Ranger water color paper which has a lot of texture so I wasn’t too fond of how that was looking. I then took to putting color on my craft mat and picking up with a brush and bit of water. The coolest things about these crayons is once they are dry, they are permanent, so you CANNOT blend the color that is dry. Hmmm…great learning experience! This was my first time to dig in and really play so I learned lots. You can layer on other colors after the initial colors are dry which is super fun for changing the colors (lightening it or darkening it) or adding shading. I think using a different type of water color paper with less texture might work a little better. Regardless, I warriored on and determined to make it work (said in my best Tim Gunn voice – any other Project Runway peeps out there?).
I stamped the first two succulents, masked them off and then stamped the 3rd in the background. Nothing fancy after that, just water coloring and having fun. I mounted the main panel with fun foam on a neutral card base, added some washi tape and that’s it – pretty easy peasy.
