This is for Lydia's fun mixed media challenge "Say what you want"...loose handwriting that is illegible - so I will tell you what this says.
Dear Melanie, we think your last make-over was a bit extreme, in fact we hardly recognise you. We loved you just the way you were. Big squishy hugs from you BFF's Meg and Goldie.
ROTFL...I didn't really say that, I wrote "You are my sunshine" song. This was heaps of fun to make, with the usual smack & squirt technique. Smack distress ink onto aluminium foil, squirt on a lot of water and because I was too lazy to mask Melanie, Meg and Goldie, I added a bit more water than usual so I could control the sponging around them. I started with the blue first.....unfortunately I was so distracted by the Olympics on the TV, that I started colouring from the bottom....blue grass was not the look I was going for.
I did the sky next...the ink was already ready to use LOL. Once the grass had completely dried, I used green distress inks, green Distress Crayons and Prismacolour pencils. The few flicks of white were made with a Sharpie paint pen. Elizabeth did a fabulous tutorial last month "Outdoor backgrounds" http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/re...orbackgrounds/ whilst my grass is not exactly the same, I used Elizabeths method over the top of the distress ink. Trees were stamped, doodled the border and added a fence.
Doing the writing was the last thing I did. With very little pressure I wrote on the exposed sky with a Staedtler HB pencil. I figured I could rub it out and start again if it didn't look right. I love this technique!!
Thanks for looking ladies and have a happy weekend.

OMG Susie! You make my day!!! I love your descriptions, and this is over the top too. I like your original "Dear Melanie script", I believed it!
We all know there are no mistakes in crafting, you needed that touch of blue in the grass for realism. What a great sense of humor and excellent card.
Wait for it....

Oh Susie. Just love this. I agree the extreme makeover went a bit far. I think the eyebrows still need a bit of a pluck too. he he he Great way to add in the handwriting. Another special Susie card with a great description. Hope you are keeping warm.

Susie, I can't keep up with you. You're cranking out these Fantastic cards like your life depends on it. Love your outdoor scene. And your personal "translation" of "You are my Sunshine"! I can see Meg and Goldie are being very tactful and kind to Melanie. Personally I wouldn't want to meet her in a dark alley (not that anything is wrong with this look).....actually, the topknot (?) is quite lovely. Melanie, Melanie, Melanie...What WERE you thinking??? These things can be fixed. Things can always be fixed! A little nail gilding and a little fluffing of the feathers (oh, you poor thing), a little bleaching and a little dying of select feathers and you will be the Perfect Melanie again.....not that anything is wrong with this look. Keep your chin up, Melanie. We've all had a bad hair day. This too will pass.
Love this, Susie!!!!! Looking forward to your next one! When I first looked at this I thought "Oh no, did Sassy Alana fall into a tar pit?" Thankfully, wherever she is, she's been spared that.
