The Clean and Simple Challenge this week, CAS390 - Summer Cold (8/15/16), was to make a get well or encouragement card.
I made this as an encouragement card for the daughter of a friend who is currently going through chemo. I've been struggling on what style of card to make - floral & girly or something with bold colors & lines. This card is neither of those!!!
My inspiration piece for this card started when I spotted a discarded white sunshine die cut that was lingering on my stamp table...too good to toss and too "blah" to do anything with it. A bit of yellow tone distress inks gave it come life and I found a smilee face stamp (old Studio G) that gave it a happy smile.
The sun needed some clouds, so out came one of my cloud embossing folders....I royally messed up on applying ink to the inside of the folder before embossing. It ended up a streaky mess, but I was on a roll and decided to go with it rather than seek perfection!!!.
The only sort of appropriate fun shape that I could think of to go with this happy, cutesy sunshine theme was the bear from SU Bear Hugs. I have had a ball making masculine cards with this die, but this is the first girl card I've done....not that this bear looks girly, in any way!
This was a fun card to design and went together quickly once I got the pieces stamped and cut. I totally loved working with the new frame in frame die cut from Taylored Expressions. It has really delicate lines embossed in it that add a nice texture IRL, kind of hard to see in my photo. Another thing I liked about the frame is that the sides were wide enough to easily hide the foam tape I used for dimension.
Thanks so much for popping by and looking at my Bear Hug sunshine card. Have a bright sunshiny day!

Oh wow Susy this is fabulous and is sure to bring smiles to your friends daughter. Thanks for the terrific detailed description. Oh and thank you for helping me spend money - that frame in a frame die is brilliant.

Fabulous Susy - before I read your details I thought the streaking was deliberate and thought "how cool" - it appears to me the way the sun rays look when peaking through the clouds. I love it and I hope it has your friend smiling.

Wow, Susy! You've created such a beautiful card with that gorgeous sky and clouds! The card will certainly bring sunshine to your friend's daughter who is undergoing chemo. When I was getting chemo, cards from friends and loved ones made each day a little easier! I commend you for caring enough to create such a gorgeous card for her!
