This is for Cathy's fun "Make it Masculine" challenge. It is so good to be back and getting inky - I have missed my Splitcoastie family!!!
The background for these cards started out life as a dodgy mixed media panel, it was a muddy greyish-purpely colour which never looked quite right. As some of you know, I never throw anything out in hope that it can be repaired or used for practising new techniques on LOL. I recently purchased a few bottle of Tattered Angels "Glam" and some Tattered Angels "Glaze" so I thought I would practice on the failed panels.
I am really happy with the end result. I have put one panel away for this weekends VSN (thank you for the reminder Miss Carla) and turned the other panel into these two 5" square cards. The feathers (and cog) are die-cut from a tube of tomato paste sent all the way from Ireland, courtesy of Sabrina. We just have plastic tubs and glass jars here, nothing as exotic as metal tubes. I added a few drops of alcohol ink to make the feathers look a bit rustic.
Thank you for looking, I had heaps of fun making these cards.

They certainly don't look like dodgy panels now - fab result! What a shame you don't get tomato paste in tubes - it's my favourite source of freebie metal for die cutting and embossing. It's also a really economical way of using tomato paste if you only need a bit at a time since it keeps fresh for ages. If you find yourself near an Italian food store, try in there.

Oh Susie, these are awesome! The backgrounds turned out so beautifully. And the feathers! Wow! I would never have thought of using the thin metallic as die cuts.

Whoa, these look amazing! Good thing you saved those dodgy looking panels! Those feathers are gorgeous, too. We get tomato paste in cans here in the U S, have never seen it in tubes.
