Two challenges this week shifted my card-making mojo into high gear. Earth Day was the inspiration for both challenges. Here are the deets on the two challenges.
The Way to Use it Challenge, WT580 (4/21/16) Plant a Tree, was to use a tree or something made from a tree. My card has 3 tree related items: the trees in image on the tag, the palm leaf die cut and the wood grain textured card base.
The Free for All Friday Challenge, F4A322 (4/22/16) Mother Earth, called for us to make a card featuring something from nature. My card has 4 nature related features: trees in the image, Palm leaf die cuts, wood grain textured card base and my very favorite element of nature - beach sand!
If you look closely at the golf scene on the tag, there is a sand trap. That is real sand in the trap, salvaged from some shells I picked up on a beach in Maui. The cute golf scene is also from Maui. The hotel we stayed at was selling sets of hand painted gift enclosure cards to raise money for Hospice Maui. This was one of the cards in the pack and I knew it was destined for repurposing on one of my cards.
The hardest part of making this card was gluing the die cut leaves and tag onto the deeply textured card base. I had the bright idea to attach the leaves to the tag before spraying the back with spray adhesive, not
realizing that the leaves, cut from lightweight designer paper would go floppy limp when the spray hit it and the tag curled!!!! Oh my, was it ever a circus getting that sucker onto the card front....the placement wasn't where I intended, but so it goes with card making!
This was a super fun card to make, and assembling it brought back lots of fun vacation memories...Aloha!

What a great idea to use real sand. You have to keep this on display in your home...it is such a terrific vacation keepsake. I always wanted to buy a souvenier (I don't have spell check???) From places we traveled. Unless you go to China, the item is not going to be locally made. You have such a pretty vacation memory.
