For this week's birthday CAS and paper casting technique challenges.
Forgive my shortcut, please. Before I retired, I had an opportunity to work as a teacher on summer assignment at a paper mill. Fabulous! Picture me in a hard hat and steel toe boots-- I learned LOTS about paper manufacturing and managed to contribute ideas about re-use of waste by-products of the paper recycling process. Eh, I'm a bit of an environmentalist...! So, I shared with my classes and the classes at outdoor school some of what I'd learned, and taught them how to create their own hand-made recycled paper. They really enjoyed tearing up old homework pages and referrals. I'd developed a liking for the process as well, and still do. Especially if I can shred bills or tax stuff. Craft therapy.
This panel, circle, and heart were part of my stash. I used a cookie press to create the heart.
btw, I'd observed a lesson using the toilet tissue process, and was disappointed. The final project was way too fragile, and I objected philosophically-- The "paper" was created from a new product, and not truly recycled. For sure, though, I'd not care much for creating paper from used tp!
Can you see some of the ink and print that survived the blender? The color on the circle and the heart are from the pigment of the original paper, and I'd added potpourri and dryer lint.

Beautiful, Brenda. I love all the inclusions. This brings back memories of making paper as children. What a great experience that must have been. I know there is a paper (making) museum in Basel, but we didn't have time to get to it.

Very unique. I love the way you did the bottom of the white. And now that I read yur story, I LOVE it. I have an entire box of cookie presses in the basement (same box as the paper making stuff) I agree it was faster than toilet tissue. Her I sit waiting for mine to dry. But I sure do think sabrina was awesome to fill in today.

Beautiful Brenda !
Last year we went to a paper mill museum and we could see how paper was made from old clothes.
In fact we could see the procedure to make paper from the early days till now.
Very educating...

What a great creation! I didn't try that technique. You were successful with your version. I like how you tore the one layer, too. It all goes together very well.

You are too funny. I laughed about your used tp comment.
I have made my own paper before too. I loved doing it. I haven't done it in a few years. I used to use the paper that my kids would bring home from school because the secretary there liked all sorts of colored paper for the notes. Your casting by the way looks amazing.
