This was a fun challenge for me as I LOVE to read! I probably read close to 50 books a year. So I don't have a favorite book...I have a number of favorites. For this card I went back to a book I read many, many years ago. It's called Being There by Jerzy Kosinski. It's about gardener named Chance (also known as Chauncey Gardiner), a simple man yet one who has a profound influence on the people he meets. It's a satirical look at the influences of media, politics, and business and the perhaps gullible nature of those so willing to follow anyone they believe is the next great leader. Hmmm....though this was written in the 1970's it almost sounds eerily contemporary (once again I profess a balanced commentary here). It's a great read....funny and you just can't help but be drawn in to the Chance character. (FYI-It's also a wonderful movie starring Peter Sellers).
I watercolored this and then added a portion of the lattice die..I wanted to make it look as if you were looking into Chance's garden. And there he is looking in as well.

Love your coloring and the combination of images, Polly! The lattice die looks wonderful on this. What a fantastic imagination you have in designing your cards! They are so unique and each one is a joy to see!

What an imaginative card, Polly. It reminds me of One4Joy's cards. Love what you did with your lattice work. Having that small man next to the larger sized floral image is creative genius.

A beautiful card, Polly. Fab water coloring and I like the way you used only part of the die cut. I loved hearing about the book, it does sound like a good read.

OH, did this one take me back! Loved that movie with Peter Sellers. And your card is brilliant. I knew it was yours before I could spy the thumbnail! I'd love to stroll this garden with you...and Chauncey.

This is such a typical whimsical Polly card! Love the scale with the big daffodils, small gardener and then the sentiment. Another book I'll have to check out. I love the little flowers you added to the lattice - they look just sweet.

Polly, I was thinking the same thing (politically) as I read your write-up. Sadly we live in a time when many are willing to have their ears tickled.
I think I remember this book, but, I haven't read it. I find myself drawn to biographies. One thing I do know, your card is top drawer, and I was delighted by the multi-media look of it. Well done, Polly!
