The pictures that Sabrina posted reminded me how much I always wanted a dollhouse when I was little. I never got one:( OK...the happy part of this story is that...I had a big dollhouse right in my yard! Yes, my dad and a neighbor built a small house in our yard that was painted just like our big house. It was one room and had a small table and 2 chairs, a play stove and sink, and a tiny china cabinet painted pink! The cabinet had little glass windows on top and was made by the same neighbor who helped build the house. It was originally built for my older sister (I hadn't been born) but when I came along we both played in it. There were times when we had sleepovers...three people were the most we could do..and the furniture had to spend the night on the little porch! And in the winter much to the despairing eye of my mother we jumped off the roof into large piles of snow. We were helped in that effort by the wood pile right next to the dollhouse ;) I have a picture of the inside which I'll post to the thread..not sure how to post a photo here. See photo in this thread
My card features a vintage image of little girls playing with their dolls and the prized dollhouse in the background. I chose to only color the girls so they'd show off more. And the boys and girl on the side are copies of Kate Greenaway drawings from some pages sent to me by Sabrina. She knew I would use these sometime on a card...and today was the day. Sabrina I think both you and I are romantics..we love stuff like Kate Greenaway and old toys. Thanks for the challenge (and the wonderful old book pages)!

What a lovely story and card to go with it! What fun to have a get-a-way to let your imagination run free in! I really like the way you have selectively coloured your image and highlighted the figures!

Super fantastic vintage image and what a great memory from your childhood. Loved the great picture you posted on the thread for us to see of the inside of your house. Many years ago one of our neighbors had a small house in the back yard too. We all use to love to play in it until someone said that a tarantula got loose in it...well when you are little, you believe everything so we never went in the house again. :( Fantastic card and thank you for the glimpse in your childhood.
Awesome card, and awesome story! I think the outside playhouse trumps a dollhouse any day...I always wanted a treehouse outside! Sleepovers...how fun is that???!!!
I can't believe you also had a Zotty. You were way more adventurous in naming yours...my sister has a smaller Zotty, his name is Zotty. I have a somewhat larger Zotty, and his name is Zotty. My daughter has a Zotty...yah...you guessed it! She got her's about 8 years ago. My Aunt, who lives in Berlin, searched for weeks...we are pretty sure she got the last Zotty in all of Germany!!! I too brought mine to University with me. He used to make a growling sound when you gently rocked him. The girls on my residence floor used to grab him and shake him (quite violently I might add...and I'm still traumatized!)...he no longer growls, but I still love him!

Looks like even when young you knew you would be a teapotter as sipping tea and wearing hats at your tea party. Really sweet story and great card---good memories are never forgotten.

Loved your photo on the challenge thread, Polly - thanks for sharing that! And the story about your little house in the yard. We never had anything that permanent, but my brother and I were always building tree-houses or occasionally excavating underground dugouts. The Kate Greenaway illustrations are so perfectly in keeping with the stamped image. The little girl in the blue dress holding the doll, she looks almost exactly like one of the pictures in one of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books!!

Polly thank you for sharing your wonderful childhood memories, I felt like I was there with you! I love your photo too. Your card is as terrific as your write up and photo. I love the selective colouring and layout. Any teapotter would be thrilled to receive this.

Cute little card, I'm glad you got to finally use your doll house. I always wanted a doll house but was given a horse instead. I loved my horse so never mentioned the doll house again. You wer one lucky gal to have a matching home and doll house.
Great vintage card! I had one of those metal doll house until one day my Mom looked in and me and another little girl were jumping on it! LOL
I don't remember this or the doll house, so I must have been awful small! Your card is wonderful!
