WooHoo it is Tickle a Teapotter time of the month and Faith has given us a fun Monster Mash challenge. Halloween isn't really celebrated here, but through the magic of SCS I have learnt that the combination of purple, orange, pumpkins and funny hats work just fine.
Here we have Ma, Pa and Lil' one, all dressed up as pumpkins...ok they aren't really dressed up as pumpkins...they started out life as crazy birds, inked to within an inch of their life in Spiced Marmalade distress ink and water. The same orange ink was used on the background along with Dusty Concord and Seedless Preserves.
The usual Smack & Squirt was done for the background - smack distress ink pad onto al foil, squirt on a lot of water and use a foam blending tool to mop up the inky water then swish and scrub over the cardstock. For the pumpkins, smack distress ink onto alfoil, squirt a tiny bit of water in one corner of the ink then use an aqua brush. As you can see you get lots of shades of yellow and orange from just one smack of the spiced marmalade ink pad onto al foil. The lines were made by folding the the birds head and use a dauber to add undiluted ink.
I am all for endorsing products when they are GOOD....however I must say Timmy Holtz does not impress me with his latest announcement that his next colour being released is another shade of orange. We need another orange like a hole in the head!!
MISTI (stamping positioner) is responsible for the terrific black outline on the birds - I leave the stamps attached to the MISTI lid while I remove the stamped images for colouring. Once dry, I put the images back into MISTI then re stamp several times using Versafine, when I am happy with the boldness of images, remove and fussy cut. The vines at the top and garden at the bottom were also done in the MISTI using Archival (it is a nice soft black when applied over distress ink).
The stenciled spider web was a bit hard to see so I gently coloured it with a white and silver Prismacolour pencil.
Thank you for looking and have a great week everyone.

Susie, you are amazing! First of all, I think most of us take it for granted that everyone is familiar with Halloween...never realized that it is an American holiday? Well, you got it right! Your birds are so cute dressed up like pumpkins and those long legs with the striped socks are so fantastic! LOVE their shoes too! Your bg is wonderful like it always is! Susie, this is a wonderful fun colorful card and I love it mate!

Fun start to the day reading about your pumpkin birds and seeing this great card - impossible not to smile. Halloween didn't used to be a big thing here in the UK either but boy has it taken off - more important than Guy Fawkes now although Fireworks are still popular at this time of year.

Well after reading your story and your comments about ORANGE, I will tell you my favorite color is orange.... LOL I don't use it a lot in my creating and I don't decorate my house ( well I don't any more) Another LOL.... But I did buy a new car a couple of weeks ago and guess what color it is???? Let me know when you give up? I love that I can relate to each of these birds, depending on which day it is.... You keep rocking these distressed background Susie....
