Karen is our hostess this week, and she has challenged us to use Calypso Coral, Crisp Cantaloupe and Basic Gray. Dessert option this week is to add some blue and green. I actually did that, but you canÂ’t see it, for which IÂ’m very grateful.
True story: When I was a young adult, I took a pencil drawing class with my county’s adult education department. Just black pencils, no color, completely elementary. Long story short, after about the fourth or fifth lesson, the teacher took me aside and suggested, and this is a direct quote, that I “find another outlet for my creative urges.” Yes, I was that bad. Which is why I love stamping!
After all these years, IÂ’ve decided to give watercoloring a try, with the inspiration and help of the wonderful artists on SCS and elsewhere on the Internet. I have the 36-color set of watercolors, but none of the colors were exactly right for Calypso Coral nor Crisp Cantaloupe. And thereÂ’s black, but no gray. (Now I know why white was included!) So the first thing I did was mix some colors! I was feeling very brave, and whatÂ’s more, I think I nailed those colors exactly! Yay, me!
The background was done with a wash of three mixed-by-me colors. I stamped the flowers on watercolor paper with Versafine Black Onyx, then sprinkled with clear embossing powder and heat set; then fussy cut with my Silhouette Portrait. Then I re-wet the same mixed colors in their little plastic palette and used them to color the poppies.
I tried a little wash of green and blue on the outside edges of the flowers. Fortunately, it was so light it completely disappeared when it was dry, which is a good thing because it looked strange!
This card is also for Try a New Technique, TLC536, to use splatters on your card. Next time, IÂ’m going to try waiting to add the splatters until the watercolor background is dry. These are OK, but they kinda spread out rather than having clear edges.
And it’s also to say thank you to Angie (ohmypaper) for the lovely work she has done on the Clean and Simple Challenges. The front of my card says, “so many smiles . . . “ and the inside says, “begin with you.” Thank you, Angie!
Thanks for reading my little saga, thanks for stopping by, and please play along with us this week!

Your poppies are beautiful. Never let the opinions of one person alter your own passions and desires. Glad you persevered.
