This is for Robin's terrific Free for All challenge. Check it out here .
Sapphire blue background and an emerald dress (ok, emeraldish, I really did use an emerald green gelato.)
The sapphire background was made using blue Izinks directly onto a cardstock panel - 3 drops of ink then squirt on a lot of water; tilt the panel to move the colour around. I then did the same with green Izink. By this stage a lot of blue and green inky water had pooled on the al foil sheet I was using instead of a craft mat. Dunk the panel into the puddle and swish around.
Izinks have a beautiful pearly sheen, but sometimes they lack depth of colour. Distress inks are brilliant sponged over the top of the Izink; you still get the fabulous pearly sheen along with plenty of oomph!! I scrubbed salty ocean and purple dusty concord distress ink onto the card. Next step was to stencil on the modeling paste. I hit it with a blast from my heat gun....got carried away and it sort of melted the paste.
Using my finger tips, I applied lots of colours to the modeling paste. To disguise the melted bits I stamped over it with a 'crackle' stamp, also did this randomly on the blue area. At this point I sponged Walnut Stain distress ink all around the edges - it made the blue turn a terrific green in places. I used a baby wipe to remove some colour, this gives the illusion of a glow.
The long underwater plants were made by free hand drawing lines with a micron pen, draw tiny circles and fill in the circles with a white gel pen, and then touched up with a silver sharpie pen. The water drops in top left corner were done the same way (micron pen and white gel pen).
Using my MISTI stamping tool, I stamped the Unity fairy. I left the rubber stamp in place in the MISTI as I wanted to restamp her in black ink again after I coloured her. She was coloured with Gelatos, Inktense pencils and an aqua brush.
Fussy cut, ink around the edge with black soot distress ink and a dauber (apply from the back in case you slip). You will be amazed how this makes any fussy cutting look good.
I wrapped some silver thread around her waist, then adhered her to the card. Ink around edges of cardbase before adding the coloured panel. Thank you for looking and I hope you join in the fun.

I have read your very detailed directions, and I couldn't come up with even one of these amazing techniques. Your colors are so rich with such a variety of qualities...
some have a shimner and others seem so intense. This is just amazing. I love the modeling paste, tge silver thread and the hand drawn water plants.

Wow Susie, I love your melted paste with the hexagon shapes and color. Love the little underwater plants you made (I thought it was a stamp and I was going to ask you where to get it because I loves it!) I love the bubbles/water drops and your fairy is out of this world gorgeous! I want to be in her underwater world...of course I would drown but I'd love to see it! Oh to be a mermaid for a day..sigh...oh wait, sharks don't eat mermaids do they?
Ok, I have to stick with the wood fairies I guess!
Love your bg technique Susie! I have some of those Izinks...goota try that!

WOW! The techniques you developed and your use of color combined with your beautiful images of fairies always create magic on paper! You truly are a gifted artist and it's a pleasure to see everyone of your creations. I do hope you framed some for yourself. They just burst with color and I love everyone of them!

GORGEOUS as always, Susie. This has an Erte look with the dark bg and the pale fairy...plus her position and tiny dots and fine details. Every one of your cards bears a long closer study to take it all in.
