Sheri has set us a fun challenge this week - Down on the Farm.
Our cards are going to Carol, a longtime friend of our very own Lydia. Carol and her husband Bob live in Hot Springs, Madison County, North Carolina and according to the 2010 census; it has a population of 560. When I was googling NC, a much loved and familiar face popped up on my screen......Andy Griffith.
Do you remember the Andy Griffith show? My Nan had an apron just like Aunt BeeÂ’s; she would let me wear it on special occasions. I remember wearing it to school one day for "show and tell" along with my Mickey Mouse ears - I thought I was the luckiest girl in the world!!
Now about the card, here we have young Sally, a jillaroo visiting from outback Australia. Australian barns (sheds) are not as colourful or fancy as the US ones so Sally was very excited to see one in the bush. She doesn't know it yet, but the barn only has a facade, although the doors open. For the last half an hour Sally has been calling out, "here chook, chook, chook".....Sally is about to find out that American chooks are called chickens, whether they are alive or sitting on a dinner plate!! (I discovered this here at SCS a few months ago).
I stamped the tree trunk first, using my MISTI stamping tool. To make the trunk longer, I turned the stamp upside down and stamped some more of the straight bit. The background technique here is the usual Smack & Squirt (smack distress ink pad onto al foil, squirt on water and using a foam blending tool, scrub the inky water onto the cardstock, add a bit more colour without adding water) .
The distress inks used were Mowed grass, peeled paint, wild honey, spiced marmalade, salty ocean, faded jeans and walnut stain. I have a digi image of a barn, but the printer wouldn't work, so I copied it by hand. I scrubbed all three red distress inks onto cardstock, then drew black lines, trimmed the edges with paper.
Sally was coloured with a combination of Tria and copic markers and distress inks. I will get this off in the mail today.
I was away all last week; it is very nice to be back at my craft desk!! Thanks for looking.

I had to read this a few times to make certain that you drew that barn... it looks amazing. The colors in this scene are gorgeous. I love the little girl with attitude. So coincidental that you mentioned the Andy Griffith show - my teenage sons were so excited that they found a real barber shop with a wooden indian in front and $8 haircuts. I had to tell them about Floyd's barber shop on that show. Into my favs.

Susie, this is darling. In the U.S. we have different names for chickens we eat for dinner, i.e., roasting chicken, fryer chickens (also known as broilers), and stewing chickens (which some use for chicken and dumplings). Now that ought to send you to google in a hurry *laughing* I love, love your jillaroo kicking up her boots on the barbed wire fence. And your background is just fabulous. Yee haw, Cowgirl Up!

Susie, you put your heart into every card you make......love the deets. I keep looking at this great card and all the details. Amazing bg for the fantastic barn and fence. Your little cowgirl is just great kicking up her heels. I keep picturing you with the apron and Mickey Mouse ears...kinda like what we should all do.... dance like know ones watching. Thanks for the happy memories. Fav'd TFS
How fun is this card! Love the background, with the colours of the sky, the trees and plants. I too googled where Hot Springs, NC is...and was surprised to see the population. It is a 'doable' drive from Ontario for a mini few-night-away-getaway...still looking for a fun place to visit this summer.

I hope you had a lovely time away - we missed you in the gallery but I'm sure you were having fun and enjoying yourselves out in the country if not down on the farm. As always, gorgeous colours. Love the idea of a false barn front - like a movie set! And I love Sally's outfit - especially her boots! I was wishing I had a barbed wire die the other week when I had to make to with an embossing folder - but I know I wouldn't use one enough to warrant getting it!
I wish that I could hug my favourite Australian on hug an Australian day, but alas....
