The Clean & Simple Challenge, CAS319 (4/6/15), was to make it masculine. Perfect timing for the challenge, because I was asked to make a birthday card for our pastor's upcoming birthday. After I made the card I recalled that when people sign the card, they often include a monetary gift, so I quickly put together a gift envelope with a leftover goose image. Here's hoping that the card meets with everyone's approval!
This was a straightforward card to make. I stamped the goose image and then masked it to do the sponging around the body. I did sponge a bit of smoky grey ink on the lower chest and body of the goose to make it more realistic.
The tan cheesecloth peeking out from under the panels is supposed to look like the netting that is used in duck blinds. I dyed the cheesecloth with SU Baked Brown Sugar reinker that was diluted with water. I crunched it when it was wet and dryed it with a heat gun to set the wrinkles in the weave.
What I discovered was that the cheesecloth snags easily and has a mind of its own on when attaching it to adhesives. I finally got it nailed down by using strips of foam adhesive on the back and then using super sticky tape to adhere it to the card front. I breathed a sigh of relief when it didn't fall off. Super sticky tape rocks!
I made the matching gift envelope with a not-so-perfect leftover image that I used to figure out the colors I wanted to use to sponge. It's not a match for the goose that I used on the card, which bugs me, but hopefully no one else will notice.
Thanks for looking in on my goose card and gift envelope. Making masculine cards is SO fun! Please join us in this challenge. Can't wait to see your creation!
