I made this matchbook style wedding card for the Ways To Use It Challenge, WT525 - Elements of Earth, Wind, Fire or pWater (4/2/15).
It may not be immediately obvious, but this is my attempt to depict the element of fire. Throughout the years I've seen many fun match-stick bride & groom cards, and I wanted to try my hand at at "kicked up" version of the card. That required a real matchbook look for the card base and then some over-the-top treatment of the happy couple-of-matches inside. Full disclosure from an exhausted stamper - this card took WAY longer to design, create and assemble than any rational person would spend....I'm guessing at least 6 hours and then some. Yikes! Did I enjoy it? Yes, indeedy I did!!!!
If you glanced at the supply list, you can get the idea that it was very supply extensive. It wouldnt have been necessary to use the number of dies and punches that I did; a similar effect could be achieved with simple straight cut panels, but I had the goodies so why not use them!
The only distinctive, funky part to this card is the section with the little match people. I used chipboard to mimic the color/texture of real matches, and cut & tore the panel so it looked like matches had been torn out, leaving only the happy match couple. The tips of the chipboard were squished with SU ink from a foam pad and then dipped in embossing powder and heat embossed. I repeated the process 3 times so it looked thick and glossy. The groom got a black bow (3 layers cs) and the bride a gathered bit of lace with small heart shaped pearl. I used the sentiment tag as a way to tie the couple together visually and to repeat the red element.
I hope no one asks for dimensions and how I cut the matches, etc...it was done by-guess-and-by-gosh every step of the way and I'm not sure I could endure making another one. There is a reason we are told to not play with matches!...please forgive the horrible pun..
I thank you kindly stopping by to look at my fire-themed Perfect "Match" wedding card.
