For Linda's super WT challenge today - Linda, you come up with some wonderful ideas! Are you a Tortoise or Hare?
I fell in love with the card in the Masking Fluid Resist tutorial when I first saw it. But I knew that if I didn't like my regular writing on a card, for sure I wasn't going to like what I might achieve with masking fluid! Fast forward, and I recently got a Masquepen in a local school supplies shop. That already would make writing easier, and then I had the further bright idea that I could use the negative of a die-cut as a stencil to guide me. So, Linda's challenge gave me the push to actually try this.
The base layer is a failed layer, sigh... the Hello was a bit neater, but I got some old thin masking fluid on the back of the card and then when I sponged it, it looked different where the stain was. I pretty much followed the tutorial. The second layer, I trimmed it down, edged it with gold and layered it onto the fail layer. Added some gold twine and a gem brad, and in the end I stamped the focal point feather again and embossed with blue EP, finishing it off with Stickles.
Time taken- if you count the failed base, two and a half hours, plus another twenty minutes later messing around with the twine! But there was a little drying time involved in each layer, which was used for other stuff - like tidying my desk .

Sabrina, this was worth the effort. The movement you have on this amazing card is spectacular. The feather gives the look of floating in air.The added gold with the blue is perfect. So your tip would be....keep the work area clean. I wish to be that disciplined. Thanks for sharing.

ROTFL.....when I first read that the base layer is a failed layer I thought that was a mixed media technique.....then I read "sigh" ...gosh I wish I could make failed bases like this!!! Everything about this is great Sabrina. Thanks for the tips.

This is beautiful! Love everything about this card, failed layer included...happy accident? I recently bought masking fluid, so I now know the first thing I'm going to try using it. Thanks for the tip using the word die negative as a stencil for writing. Brilliant idea! :-)

Oh my Sabrina this is so worth the extra effort. What failed layer. I still like to try to use layers that I think failed too because I still think there is some use to them. In your case you used it beautifully and now it looks like it was meant to be that way so no fail. I love the soft feathers and the blue father on top too. So well done.

Mixed media always takes so long - things drying and things not working out and having to do over - but this was worth all your effort Sabrina - what a lovely effect with the masking fluid!

This card conveys both serenity and movement, I really like it.
But, what a novel idea - tidy up your desk indeed. I would be browsing my stash for ideas for the next card.

Wow! This looks amazing and the feeling of floating is fabulous. The blues with gold accents are so rich and that feather is gorgeous. SO worth the time!

This is gorgeous and worth the time you spent on it! Thank you for the link. I had bought the masking fluid several months ago, but still haven't taken the time to try this. You are inspiring me.

So pretty and worth the time it took. And look at the 'bonus' you tidied up your desk! (something I need to do!!). I love this look and have been considering buying some masking fluid. Pretty feather too.

Beautiful, Sabrina! I was going to try some masking fluid resist yesterday & found my bottle was completely dried up. Found a decent work around, so it wasn't a complete loss. Love the blues, gold & feather in the center.
