Sheri has set us a lovely challenge to help Wendy of Port Henry, to keep her spirits up following very disheartening news about her health.
I read in the "destination station" that Wendy loves gardening and the colour purple. I then read in Sheri's challenge to bring butterflies and hummers. I could not for the life of me work out how I was going to incorporate a thumping big four-wheel drive vehicle into my purple garden scene!!
I thought maybe hummer meant something else, so I googled it....the news was worse than I thought, there are not just normal hummers, but whopping big strech-limousine hummers. The closest stamp I own is a Tim Holtz jalope.
I stamped a tranquil porch scene by Paperbag Studios in Gothic Purple StazOn ink straight onto the square hammertone card (the hammertone texture doesn't show up very well in the photo). Because of the texture, the words in the right hand corner were hard to read, so I restamped the image on the smooth back of a scrap of the hammertone cardstock. I cut inside the frame of the image and then stuck it back onto the actual card, leaving the original border showing.
I stamped out some flowers by Unity Stamps (please pretend they are NOT poppies, that should be red and black) and using distress inks and an aqua pen I coloured in the flowers, fussy cut them and stuck them on the card. Next job was to stamp and stick on the old jalope to resemble a hummer....long story short, it looked stupid so I pulled it off, unfortunately some of the cardstock tore. To disguise the tear I decided to add the gates (the tear is behind the right pillar), this of course meant the gates didn't fit across the card, so I cut them in half and mounted them on each side.
I was just about to describe how I did the butterflies.....you can imagine my surprise when I couldn't find them. It would appear they have fallen off in the heat before I photographed the card LOL. I just found them on the floor, they look like dead killer-moths now so I will just post this to Wendy as is.
Thank you for looking and have a lovely week ladies.
EDIT: ROTFL I just read Jody's comments and I also read the description on Lynns card....you know where I am going with this....I now know a hummer is short for a hummingbird...in my defence, we don't have hummingbirds down under, but we do have hummers (big-boy vehicles).

Oh, Susie, you crack me up! Your descriptions are always so entertaining! I'm glad you took the vehicle off the card (snort)! I almost used a hummingbird image for my card, but my flowers won out.
This is a lovely card, and who knows, there may be purple poppies somewhere. If there can be orange ones and yellow ones, there can be purple ones! The image of the porch is wonderful - so serene, and such a perfect sentiment to go with it. Wonderful!

Another episode in the day of our Susie Australia!! SO glad the jalope/"hummer" was removed and your garden is intact with its lovely purple flowers - my vote is with Jody , that there can be purple poppies in a stampers' world, even if just to please Wendy! Love the fence to create your garden gate, and hopefully your card will bring good dreams to her heart!

I especially love how you tucked your sentiment into your beautiful porch scene. I love the monochromatic feel of this...your stark white with the purple accents( and just a bit of delicious green)...so lovely and giving the wonderful serene feeling of an afternoon on a fragrance filled porch.

I seem to find your cards when Dolly the insomniac dog wakes me at 1am....at least there is something good about gettimg up in the middle of the night. The purple flowers are soooo gorgeous. They look like the flowers on orchid trees, which are very common here and are not related to orchid plants at all. They make such a pretty frame for that beautiful porch image. The gate seems to invite you to come on in and sit on that old rocking chair. What a gorgeous, peaceful creation.

Ha, Susie, I can't imagine a hummer (vehicle) on this card!! Your porch scene is lovely and your gates certainly are welcoming!! Purple poppies fine with me - BTW, I wish we did have hummingbirds here, they look so pretty!! Loving the Aussies playing in the Aussie Open tonight

Susie, this is so beautiful. That gorgeous gate opens up to such wonderful flowers. Butterflies are such flitty things aren't they.....here one moment and gone the next. I just love your sense of humour girl!

Wow Susie, what gorgeous purple flowers!!! I was about to let you in on what hummers are but I see you found that out!! You made me crack up though so all's good!! Heehee! I love your card and I love purple so I don't care if your flowers are poppies! California poppies are orange BTW, just so you know for future reference. Only Chinese poppies are red in Cali. Maybe that is why I like to use orange a lot. I love poppies and lupine (purple flowers) when they grow together here in cali.
Anyway, love your gates too I just feel bad that you torn your pretty card getting that old jalopy off. I would have been so bummed and probably would have thrown it away instead of being inventive like you are! Beautiful (with or without the butterflies!)

Oh, Susie, I am grinning from ear to ear at the idea of you googling hummers , and wondering how to incorporate big trucks into your so-pretty purple garden. This is just beautiful!! I love your purple flowers and choice of sentiment - and then to have it all tucked behind that white gate is a crowning glory. Some time I have to get gate dies...I think, but then I hardly use my window die.
I bet those are hyacinths on the table in your porch image, I can almost smell them.
p.s., who said anything about choosing stamping over cooking the other day - I did both ;-).
