My good friend, Loll Thompson, is hosting the January CAS challenge at Happy Little Stampers - it is to add watercolouring to your CAS card in some way. Here's the link for the challenge if you'd like to join in:
I used two ways of adding watercolouring. My background is an acrylic block inked up with Distress Antique Linen and then spritzed with water. And my flowers are painted with water and various pink Distress inks.
I added some faint text to the watercolour background and a bit of homemade shimmer spritz to the flowers (which made the flowers look a bit grey in the photo but IRL is quite pretty and shimmery!). And finished off with black gemstones in the centres of the flowers and a few clear gemstones scattered on the card.
It's for my oldest niece, Sarah, who is turning 40 - having a niece turning 40 makes me feel old!!!
It's also for the SCS Free for All challenge - "a true free for all".

This is such a lovely card. I'm sure your niece will be so thrilled with it. The coloring is beautiful and those gem stones are the perfect finishing touch.

Wow ... LOVE this card Susan. So beautiful with the layered, watercoloured background ... perfect backdrop for those gorgeous flowers. The scattering of rhinestones really makes this card shine. Our niece will LOVE this card! Thanks for joining us at Happy Little Stampers! xx

Two beautiful watercolor techniques, Susan! I'm going to have to work on the acrylic block technique and see if I can get it to look this good. So far it hasn't even been good enough for the UFO box!

Your b'day card is beautiful, Susan. Love how you did the bg...make such a pretty base for your lovely watercolored blossoms. Pretty soft colors throughout.
