This is for the Another Year In The Books challenge. I spent 2 hours just trying to figure out how to make a card that represents my favorite childhood book, Old Yeller. It's a sad story and I didn't want a card that represents sadness, so I finally decided to look for a cartoon dog and make a happy/love card. Old yeller was the first sad book I ever read (I was about 10) and I was a little angry that my teacher had suggested it - but what a wonderful story! Some years later I began reading it to my niece and nephews. They are just 8 years younger than me. What makes this book so very special is that to this day they still mention cuddling together on the couch each night while I read this to them. Now, while the pup on this card doesn't exactly represent the story, it does represent a wonderful loving memory, shared with my niece and nephews. This looks more like 101 Dalmatians. I fussy cut the puppy and mounted it on red with a double heart cut from Cuttlebug/Love Language. The side panel is cut from IO/Square Cutout and matted using SB/Card Creator.

Love the inlaid checkerboard on the side and such a cute card!
All of us still remember when I read aloud Where the Red Fern Grows just SOBBING as I read the sad parts. Later on my kids loved a book called No More Dead Dogs.

Oh, this is such a sweet card, Priscilla. At first I thought 101 Dalmations - lol. I just love this puppy. He is just so cute, and will certainly put a smile on someone's face"

Love how you related your story about "Old Yeller" and how you created this card as a tribute to your favorite childhood book yet wanted this card to represent happiness. Well done.

This is so sweet (as is your story behind the card)! I love the dog of course, but also the die cut panel on the left. (And I sobbed and sobbed at the end of old Yeller when I read it as a kid.)
