I cut out the heart with a die cut and used the part that came out to layer my ribbon strips, then taped the cut out over it.
I didn't, but it will be easier if you use a heart die smaller for the top...the part that is cut out and fits over the ribbon heart. That way, no outside edges will show or be hard to fit. Then, if you want, you can trim the excess of the ribbon heart.
