Hurrah for a day with time to stamp. It was lucky I'd made my WT sample card ahead of time because this is the first stamping time I've had all week. I took a look at the current IO challenge ~ nautical/beach and decided I could easily combine that with Birgit's MIX78 ~ Summer Tags challenge. I don't have any IO beach themed stamps, but I do have the sea bird dies (thanks, Lorraine!). And I knew I could create a seascape from my collection of CAC stamps.
First of all I gessoed the whole tag.
Then I masked off most of it and stamped Gradation in Tea Dye, sponging over it with Scattered Straw.
I masked off the sand and most of the top (decorative scissors used to give a shape to the sea-line, but since it ended up covered with Stickles that was probably a waste of time). Sponged with Tumbled Glass, stamped with Geologic in Peacock Feathers (nearly used Bubbles for my stamp, but thought this one gave the impression of rolling waves...). Masked that off, stamped Flourishes in Versamark, embossed with clear EP and sponged with Stormy Sky. It came out a bit too dark so I smeared more gesso all over the sky area.
Surf line is Liquid Appliglue in white with clear microbeads.
Added Icicles Stickles to the sea.
I finished it off by adding the birds and some Sinamay mesh attached with a jumbo eyelet.
The mesh was a last addition AFTER I had already set an eyelet. And no matter how carefully I rolled it up I couldn't thread it through the eyelet so I had to work away with pliers to get that first eyelet out without enlarging the hole to much, but in the end I got there.
Lots of dots in my sand stamp - WT489. Thanks, Birgit - I had great fun making this.

you know that sinamay is just a booger to use, that is so lucky you didn't rip the top off the tag after all that work getting that eyelet out. ( ask me how many times I have done that eh?)
I love this mix of textures and patterns and the teeny tiny shells too
