This is the card I made for the MIX66 challenge "Things That Fly" - to incorporate something that flies into your mixed media project. Any theme, any flying thing you can think of and at least two types of mediums. I'm also adding it to the gallery for the F4A219 challenge "Wood You Like a Challenge?" - to make a project with wood somewhere on it. It can be real wood, stamped wood, or even patterned paper.
I basically started this card with the die cut butterfly and built around it. What I ended up with bears no resemblance to the idea I started with,LOL.
The butterfly overlay was cut from a thin wood sheet and colored with Tarnished Brass Distress paint. Even though I cut the frame from a matte gold cs, I colored it with paint also, so it would more closely match the butterfly. I probably should have just used wood for it, too.
The butterfly saying was stamped on vellum with VersaMark and heat embossed with black ep.The back side of the vellum is stamped with white ink. I think it added a lot of interest when backed with the metallic paper. Of course, you can't tell it's metallic, but it's the color I wanted.
All of the frame layers are adhered with Scor-tape and mounted on foam tape to the base. I cut the butterfly silhouette out of Shimmer Sheets; you can't tell in the picture, but it has a lot of purple and blue in it, in addition to the hot pink that came through in the photo.
As always, thanks for looking!

That big butterfly is really beautiful! Wood and shimmer sheets! I haven't every used Shimmer Sheets, but love the way they look here. Lovely card.
