Historically I have had some epic fails when trying almost all the crayon techniques Lydia proposed as possibilities for yesterday's MIX65 Back to Kindergarten challenge. In fact, just on Thursday I had a total fail at using white crayon to act as a resist.
So I thought I would really go back to Kindergarten with this - crayons scribbled on card and painted over with black paint. But instead of scratching my design into the black paint, I embossed the card with a Paisley ef and sanded it.
I took my paisley design and (under all the black!!) my colour palette of pink, yellow and orange from this wrist wallet for today's IC challenge.
After making my base piece, I used the crayons again on some white card and stamped the sentiment and paisley with StazOn. Looking in my diecut box for a punched flower I thought would go, I found this butterfly, so I added a body made from wire and gems.
I like the way the resist technique works with the sentiment - under all that black paint is colour if we just dig down to find it, and in the end that's why I thought the butterfly would work even better, with more symbolic meaning, than a flower. So thanks for getting me to scratch the surface a little with this challenge, Lydia.

Oh well done. Who would have thought that crayons and black paint with an embossing folder would get this stunning result? THEN you added other elements that just made a stunning card. It all fits together so well.

How clever you were coming up with this technique, Sabrina. Love your card and sentiment. I have a niece who is struggling trying to find her niche in life and I think this saying will help her, so I'm going to send it to her....hope you don't mind!

Sabrina, what a genius idea to emboss and sand it. It looks amazing. I am going to have to try this now. I am going to call it the Sabrina Sanding technique.

Sabrina you win the "crayon queen" crown. This is awsome. Your technique turned out so nicely. I love the symbolism and the sentiment. The butterfly with the gems is the perfect touch. What great colors you chose. Just stunning.

This is wonderful, Sabrina! I remember doing this kind of art in school. What a great reminder! I may have to go dig out some crayons. I know I have a bunch somewhere.
