This is my card for Dina's MIX 52 challenge "Warm Up!" - to warm up your projects and our gallery by using warm colors! Remember, to keep things truly "mixed media", you need to use at least 2 different types of art media on your card.
I think I got the warm part, and I used inks, paints, gesso and modeling paste to create my card.
I had been given the cast-off photo papers used in a wide format HP printer, and decided to see how the satin finish paper would work with inking over a VersaMark image. The inks don't glide as well as on glossy cs, and in some places the satin finish was removed, so there are matte areas. It seems like the VersaMark doesn't resist the ink quite as cleanly, either, so after sponging, I redefined different areas of the image by scratching the surface of the paper with my craft pick to reveal the white core. The leaves and some of the flower petals are painted with Distress paints. I sponged Vintage Photo through the chicken wire template, THEN decided to add modeling paste for dimension. The ink stained the modeling paste unevenly, but I like the way it looks.
I stamped a sentiment in the lower right corner, but covered it with gesso because I didn't like it. The gesso apparently didn't like it either, because it just pulled up in part of the area and looked awful. SO I did what I do with my bangs when they bug me and cut it off. I was going to stamp in the corner, but couldn't find anything that would fit that I wanted to use. I trimmed the cut corner and placed it back on the card base. I had the butterfly left from another project and thought he would work here. He was the right color, but cut from satin paper. It just didn't look right, so I painted him with acrylic paint, too. To finish it up I put a bit of Glossy Accents in the flower centers.
As always, thanks for looking!

Oh your card turned out so pretty. All of your revisions turned out great. I love all of the textures and the blend of colors. The butterfly was the perfect finishing touch. I hope your bangs turn out better than mine do when I reach for the scissors.

This is quite stunning. I understand fighting with gesso and elements you want to cover. When you put water-based product over oil or solvent-based product, they don't play nice and will peek through. I think it adds to the interest, though. Love the whole composition! Thanks for playing!
