This is my card for the MIX42 challenge Heavy Metal - to use any aluminum foil or self adhesive foil tape and acrylic paints along with chipboard (or die cuts). I realized after posting that I hadn't even looked at the Free-for-All challenge this week to make a birthday card, so I'm adding it to that challenge also. Cool!
This is actually the second attempt for this challenge - the first went in the trash can, and this one came close to following the first. I really had a hard time with the acrylic paint behaving the way it wanted to instead of the way I wanted it to, LOL.
I embossed a piece of cereal box with the CB birthday folder and adhered candles cut with an Elizabeth Craft Designs die from the same box. They are double-layered for more depth. I used spray adhesive to glue a double layer of heavy duty foil and used a stylus to snug up the foil to the candles and the design in the background. The candles were outlined with black acrylic paint using a small brush and then I applied more paint over the background. It seemed I would either wipe off too much or not enough, so I brushed over the background with clear crackle paint and sponged it with Pumice Distress ink after it dried. That seemed to help transition from black paint to shiny foil. The candles were painted using a red acrylic paint, and I put about three coats of yellow Ice Stickles on the flames. This piece is mounted on a piece of black craft foam cut to size and layered onto the black and red mats.
The card base was embossed with a Darice Plaid Background folder and sponged with Black Soot Distress ink.
This card looks better IRL, but I'm still not crazy about it. My nephew will like it though, so I'll save it for his January birthday.
As always, thanks for looking!
