Courage and Strength...orange and red and a bit of yellow, determination and encouragement. What thought provoking words, Lori for this HYCCT call.
I love this Washington Irving quote:
There is in every
true woman's heart
a spark of heavenly fire
which lies dormant
in the broad daylight
of prosperity~
but which kindles up
and beams and blazes
in the dark hour
of adversity
I had to ponder how to bring Irving's words to life and so the pieces of this card sat on my board for days. It had begun with my stamping the quote onto acetate. I wanted to convey fire, blaze, bright, hearts. It was important to me that the reader had to slow down to read the quote...
And so I used the whole series of the Spellbinders labels to cut inner and outer panels in different papers that would represent fire and courage and overcoming darkness (disease). When I found a print in the Basic Grey 'Indian Summer' Autumn Glaze there was a heart
shaped leaf within that pattern. And that was the beginning of my 'beams and blazes'. I placed the colored panels at different angles, the glossy black one was dry embossed with a Tim Holtz collage ef (it doesn't show, but is a crown). I had a very cool fabric heart brad that I placed in the middle of the copper gauzy trim. It rather looks like fire to me.
Thanks for being interested in that quote. It is so very true...our true colors rise up when we feel we have the least strength. I appreciate your comments from the bottom of my heart
