I'm taking a little license with this challenge by Kathleen to "Respect our Elders" and create a card for an "elder" we look up to. My best friend and I met in the college of education at Florida Southern College a long time ago. I taught for 26 years and then couldn't take the interference, overseeing, grading of schools, and other very wrong things anymore. My best friend stuck it out and in June will retire after 40 years in the classroom. I do not think of either of us as elderly but she is my elder in the fact that she lasted longer than I did and endured some pretty tough, even harsh years. She never taught a stale year in her career. She kept up with current trends, put up with the minutia, and was steadfast through many shows of lack of respect by students, parents, administrators and legislators. And so, my vintage, respect your elders card is not truly for an elderly person but for Pat and all those teachers who have endured and will continue to endure for the love of what they do.

Oh you have captured the spirit of the challenge completely!. Your card is beautiful with all the interesting vitage images and your very cool monochromatic look. Perhaps I should not haved used the word "elder", because you remind me, we can be inspired by anyone, old, young or the same. What a loving tribute to your dear friend! It is easy to see why you hold her in such high regard. Teaching is a noble profession and we are all better off for those wonderful people who share the gift of knowledge! Thank you so much for sharing!

Does Pat know you are calling her your elder? I love the black-and-white (although I do see a bit of tan in there). Lovely card -- she'll love it and know that you are her friend!

Aw, what a sweet description. At first I thought you were calling Pat old. This is a great card and the story and inspiration behind it makes it even more special. Way to go bestie.
Awesome card and awesome description! You gave me chill bumps! (I am glad to see someone else not going exactly the elder route too!) This is a wonderful card!

And thank God for dedicated teachers like your friend, the world is a better place because of them - this is so classic and has a vintage look - I reckon Pat is going to be delighted with your "made with love and admiration" creation!

Oh, this is a lovely card for this challenge, and a tribute to those long-time teachers. I, too, am a retired teacher, but like you, retired after 25 years. Have many friends who stuck it out for much longer and I have all the respect in the world for them!
