For her HYCCT challenge today Kathleen is asking is to "honour our elders" with extra points for vintage and gold. I've gone for all the bonus points going .
The sentiment on this reminds me of a colleague of DH's who reached retirement age a couple of years ago and started learning the cello - something she'd always wanted to do. But I suppose my card is made more with my aunt in mind. She'll be 80 this year and I'd love to be as active and interested in life as she is, despite two hip replacements and a heart valve replacement. Since she is of that very frugal generation who doesn't throw a thing out (irritating when taken too far, it has to be admitted), I made this card almost entirely out of scraps on my desk.
A2 base. I had a piece of card stamped with IO's Swirl Lace in Peeled Paint on the desk, so I over-stamped that with Canvas in blue, and then embossed it with Provocrafts Clockwork ef (indicating the passage of time ). Then I did a sort of faux patina, adding extra sponging with more blue, green and brown. Then I swiped it with Versamark and added gold EP. Edges finished off with black StazOn and black Stickles.
The gingham was also a scrap on my desk - I distressed the edges and darkened it with a bit of sponging, then stamped the Verve sentiment. The leaves came out of my scrap box, and the flowers were punched from a masked card which I'd goofed on. They're popped up on foam dots and finished off with Stickles.
So the only new thing on this card was the little fabric-covered wooden bird, which was such a perfect colour match I just had to use it.
Oh yes - there's a scrap piece of dry-wall mesh which has been used a few times for stencilling through added in there too .
