This was for the CardMaker Blog, an “Outside the Box” creation. When it comes to actually mailing a card, you don’t want to have it cost an arm and a leg in postage. Sometimes you really have to think about some aspects to your cards, especially come the holidays and you are mailing out 50-60 greeting cards to family and friends. There are still a few ways to add some elegance and charm to what I call a “flat-rate” mailer which means it will not cost more than the flat postage rate. In the November 2010 issue of CardMaker, designer Michelle Woerner created a set of Christmas cards from scraps of paper shown above. I liked this idea of using scraps and wondered how can I use even smaller scraps and create some of those flat-rate mailers at the same time? This is a rather simple card yet has a touch of charm with the embossed edge and sparkle. I began with a standard A2-size card (4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches) made from white cardstock and positioned horizonally. I then cut another piece of cardstock measuring 4 x 5 1/4 inches and die-cut a fancy edge along the bottom. The next part is the fun part—choosing the scrap pieces of paper to use! I have paper scraps from so long ago that I just can’t get rid of. The piece I used on the card shown above is a deep and vibrant blue that I just love. The entire piece was close to 1 inch in width, so I cut it down to 1/2 inch and adhered it to the card just above the fancy edge. I stamped my sentiment on the right side of the card and added a few rhinestones and some sparkly glitter glue to the edge of my die-cut border. Adhesive foam squares were used to pop up the entire panel onto my card base. Voila!

Sistah, flat-rate excellence! Way to use those scraps too. Love that sprinkled gems. Sweet, sweet card!
