Seam binding, in every color you say? Yes! I love the Vintage look of seam binding and my friend Virg (Virg001) and I have spent many lunch hours experimenting with Schiff Silk Mills Vintage Ribbon. I bought 100 yards for $10.00! It comes in many colors, but my fav is Eggshell, it looks nearly white, but muted, and dyes well. Virg bought Ivory, but to us, looks yellow. Just sayin'.
Supplies to Dye for:
3-4 yards of Rayon Ribbon (which comes flat)
Water soluble reinkers
1 sandwich size baggie
And some sun!
Saturate ribbon with water and squeeze out as much as possible. Place in lunch baggie, and scrunch up tightly. Allow to crinkle about an hour, and open baggie and add a little water, (maybe 1/8 cup) and drops if ink. Once color is soaked in, squeeze out excess, re-scrunch, and allow to dry in sun in closed baggie. Once it is nearly dry, fluff it up and dry completely in the sun.
You can add variation when it is nearly dry. Virg & I discovered you can make a variegated look by dropping ink straight onto dried binding. It is awesome!
This post dedicated to Robin, who does not have to buy stock in seam binding now! Have fun experimenting!
Note: Ugh...DO NOT use Stazon, ever! Mercy, I tried it, in black, and well....not a good idea!

Thanks, Pat for the detailed instruction. I have always wanted to try this but really didn't know where to start or how much ink to use, I also wasn't sure how you get that "scrunched " look! I pinned it to my technique board on Pinterest and I will give this a try. I LOVE people who share how they get their amazing results on accessories they add to their work! Your the BEST!!!!

I recently introduced myself to this stuff too!!! lol I got the winter white-which I LOVE! I haven't died it yet, but the way I like to use it so far is to cut off about 3 yards, spritz it with water and roll it into a tight ball and let it dry for a day. It comes out all crinkly and looks fantastic as ties for my tags in mini albums. I am going to try dyeing it. Thanks for the tip!
