What with waiting for layers to dry, it took me all day yesterday to make this card. It started out to be for the Mixed media challenge to use fabric. The large balloon is cut out from a piece of fabric that I had leftover after sewing a scrub top for my job a few years ago. I started out by gluing a piece of newsprint to the papers, then adding gesso then stamping the background hot air balloons and colouring them with Tombow markers. Then I added gesso again and found out the markers bled with the gesso. then added some acrylic paint around the edges. Then I glued the fabric to the card and covered with a bit of gesso and when dry, also covered the entire panel with Mod Podge. I stamped two dragonflies on white paper and layered them, affixed to the card. I then wrote the sentiment on a really dark discarded photo and cut each piece out and added them to the card. This is also for the Teapot Tuesday challenge #265 ...to travel to amazing places. I have always wanted to attend the hot air balloon festival in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Oh my, too much work for me for a card but,,,,,, it turned out really interesting and your destination is also one of my desires. We have very SMALL hot air balloon rallies around here, so that will probably have to satisfy my desire for this one.
Great card! tfs
Oh my goodness! Love this! Love that you incorporated the mixed media challenge! Ina, it sounds time consuming, but wow, what a fantastic result! I would love to see the hot air ballon festival in Santa Fe, too.

Well, it was a lot of waiting but I think it was worth it. Great idea for a travel destination. We see balloons overhead in ones or twos (saw one this morning, in fact), but I imagine an entire festival of them would be amazing.

The marker bleed incident actually added to the background. Don't you love it when that happens? The only clear image you needed was the foremost one and it is very precise. Looks wonderful, all your hard work paid off.

What an awesome card! Love the vivid colors and the mixed media applications! This would be FUN, but I would be all alone on this one, as DH is scared of heights!

This is amazing, Ina! I'm not patient enough to have to let things dry! I usually end up wearing it! I hope you get to Santa Fe to see the balloons and even get to go up in one! Wouldn't that be fun!

What a pretty card. Here in NE Ohio we have several wineries and one year there was a hot air balloon festival. All those balloons were so pretty - just like yours here.
