When I saw the Metal Foil Tape Challenge (TLC43 on Monday I got so excited! I had all the tools and supplies, and I have some beautiful stamps by Terry Medaris. This type of technique looks beautiful combined with the vibrant colors of the Sonoran desert. The metal reminds me of the ornate and delicate punched tin you see in the southwest. All added up to "I have to play this challenge!"
My card base is the #2 Die from Spellbinders Grand Nestabilities Creative Book Pages by Donna Salazar. The orange mat behind my image is the Nestabilities A2 Matting Basics (love those). The stamped image which is colored with Prisma Colored Pencil (no mineral spirits), is called, "Arch with Cross." Once I finished coloring I adhered the image to the orange mat with dimensionals from SU. I chose the orange mat because of the nice contrasting color against the purple.
Instead of creating an entire panel with the metal foil I decided to use a strip and repeat the stamped border pattern (or close to it). I placed some thicker cord on the card base and then alternated diamond shaped gem stones down each side. After burnishing, I used one of my tools to go along the border edge. I applied some Ranger Distress Paint (Black Soot), and wiped it off with a paper towel. Then, added some Viva 3D-Stempel-Farbe (Copper). Some sequins with bits of turquoise in the middle finish the metal foil border. I think it's a beautiful way to show this technique and to celebrate the colors of the southwest.
Thank you so much Judy, I really enjoyed this challenge. In fact, so much so, that I am finishing up a project to go along with this card and will show them both on my blog. I'll be back later with a blog post link.
