I have always loved doing the faux wood grain technique. I'm a big natural elements fan anyway as well as enjoying neutral colors and masculine cards. So, I was excited to see that the second round of the CAS Summer Design Team challenge is a technique challenge to make a wood grain. My goal was to end up with a drift wood looking piece of woodgrain. I started with a piece of Sahara Sand and used the direct to paper technique to make my wood grain using: Sahara Sand, Going Grey, Basic Grey and Close To Cocoa. I wanted to soften things even more, so I added some paint using paint daubers. After I dried the paint with my heat gun, I used some markers to bring out the "grain". I tore my piece and layered it onto Whisper White. I added a piece of burlap behind my sand dollar that I stamped in Soft Suede on Sahara Sand and sponged the edges with Suede. I also stamped my sentiment in Suede and after tearing the edges of the white, I sponged some Suede along the edges. I sponged Baja onto my base and also around the sentiment.

That sand dollar looks like you just picked it up off the beach. A beautiful card!

Congratulations, Gail....and Good Luck! A pretty vignette of a beach scene with all your wonderful textures and CAS design. Love the little piece of burlap tucked in.
