Last night I was playing with some wax paper that I used to help release paper from a die. The wax paper looked too pretty to throw out, so I put it between two pieces of paper and ironed it. Then I sponged all around the wax image which revealed the image. I know this is one of the resist techniques, but for me it was a discovery. So today I was looking at Queen Jeanne's gallery and found her flower heart card which inspired me to make this card using the wax paper and die cut resist technique with a punched heart. The technique might have worked better if I had used distress inks, but after all, I was just "playing!" This card is also for the Mixability Challenge today (Mix13) which is to doodle on a card and use 2 or more different media.
After I sponged the hearts using several shades of pink/red, I rubbed over the wax area with a tissue to remove a little more ink, then brushed some Perfect Pearls over the hearts giving them a nice glimmer IRL. After 8 or 10 photos, I just couldn't get the shimmer to show up unless everything else got washed out. I stamped my cs base with an old large bg stamp (Toybox) and Versamark with a very subtle result, but again looks nice IRL. I inked the edges of the hearts and sentiment label with an inkpad, then started attaching things. I used a white gel pen to doodle next to the vertical strip and the corners, and a red ballpoint pen to doodle on the sentiment label.
To qualify as mixed media, I used: Ink, Versamark, wax paper, sponging, direct to paper, white gel pen, red ink pen, and Perfect Pearls. Any questions? LOL!

Love that corner doodle! Val, you are too hard on yourself in these challenges! Your card is lovely!
And I know what you mean about getting shimmery things to photograph. It's maddening. I usually give up and just say "it's glittery, trust me."

Love your double heart design. I can sympathize with the photography attempts on shimmering things.

I share your frustration when you can't get a photo to capture all the cool parts of a project at once. I love the subtle resist techniques here and on Jeanne's original card!

Love reading your description! LOL Nope, no questions! I think this turned out fabulous! It makes me so happy when I try something new and it turns out, so I know you must be so happy with this card! Your coupled hearts are so pretty. I really like the soft images in the center of each heart! Your white corner doodle is fantastic too! You really made a LOVELY card! Thank you for sharing your details!!!

Lovely card and the subtle doodling of stitches and flourishes are perfect. I'm with you, even if it was already a technique in the resources section, a discovery makes it more fun to create.
