This is my card for the new Mix-Ability challenge. What fun! I've so admired mixed-media projects, and Lydia's video took some of the mystery out of creating them. I also created this card to pay tribute to Queen Beate. No one could be more deserving of the honor! Thanks, Beate, for all the terrific tutorials. You have taught me SO much!
The first challenge was to use one shiny and one dull medium. (There is a little piece of the calendar page I started with to the right of the card - I thought someone might like to see the "before.") I began by lightly brushing a dark green acrylic paint across the piece both side-to-side and up-and-down. When dry I gave it a big shower of Goosebumps and let that dry. I then repeated the acrylic paint, using Adirondack Metallic Gold. I also brushed some of the gold on the bottom layer, and randomly pounced the bristles on the paper to create a pattern. I added a frame that is totally bare paper - it was hard to make myself leave it alone!
I cut the poppy die three times - black, a dull gold, and green - and offset them to create depth. I die cut two black squares and layered under the background to get a feeling of depth there, also. This was layered on offset SB Fleur-de-Lis squares and popped with a foam layer. This was inspired by the beautiful frames Beate often uses.
I am very pleased with this (read-oh,wow! - Did I do this? Me?) - and the best part is I have another piece of the altered page -YAY!!!
As always, thanks for looking!

Beautiful!! Wonderful colors and layering!! At first look, the poppies look to be shadowed, but then you read and look again and see your layer! I love how the calendar page turned out!

Beautiful combination! That silhouette stamp against the calendar paper then Goosebumps looks awesome. (I love seeing the before paper. It's neat to see the transformation)
