This week's Technique Lover's Challenge, TLC386, is "Let's Make a Beach"and I've found it to be as irresistible as a bag of potato chips - just can't get
enough! This is my 3rd beachie card and I suspect not the last. I also entered this card in the CAS179 challenge to use twine, so it was a two-fer!
This card was inspired by some bits and pieces that were cluttering my stamping tables and were destined for the garbage. The vellum was from an unfinished project that was so dated it was embarrassing, the twine was a piece that was a discard from another card and the beach scene was a tiny photo salvaged from a business card that I picked up on vacation.
Vellum is so very pretty to use and perfectly nasty to attach without looking ucky, I'm just saying. Being too lazy to pull out my sewing machine, I opted to hand sew the vellum to the card base. I used a Sew Easy piercing wheel to make the nicely spaced holes for the stitching. This tool has been lanquishing unused in a drawer for 3 years, so finally using it was a goal accomplished! The twine was laced through the holes with a big needle and knotted at each end to secure.
The vellum cloud was made using a new die from Sweet n Sassy Stamps. Three clouds were included in the set and I was tickled to discover that the largest cloud fit the sentiment with room to spare. As mentioned earlier, vellum is persnickedy and any ink stamped on it will remain wet until it is heat embossed. The sentiment was stamped with a new Mememto dew drop color, Teal Zeal, and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. The cloud was attached to the card base with the sun style brad, so no adhesive was needed.
The tiny recycled beach scene was tucked into the waves of the vellum and adhered with foam dots.
Thanks for taking a peek at my vellum beach card. Surf's up!
