My Mom has what I would call a miraculous green thumb. She can grow anything and save plants that look like they are on their last leg. I think she could get things to grow in the desert. Therefore, I made this card reflecting that thought.
CARD (5.5" tall by 4.25" wide)
I created the base card from artichoke green cardstock and scored it at the top so that my garden desert card opens from the bottom. I layered the top panel with a dark reddish terra cotta cardstock. To create a backdrop for my image I selected a terra cotta striped paper that I matted with golden yellow cardstock to make a panel. I popped this panel slightly off the surface of the card front.
For the image panel I used a piece of white cardstock to create my desert landscape. I began my desert scene with digital stamps of a woman gardening and a saguaro cactus. I masked them and drew in the background landscape by hand. I sponged in the landscape using a wide range of inks and several masking techniques. I added details and shading to the landscape with colored pencils. After completing my background I colored my digi stamp images using gamsol and colored pencils.
To complete my image panel I matted it on golden yellow cardstock. I affixed the image panel to the card front over the decorative panel and popped it slightly from the card surface. As a finishing touch I added a little bling with three amber rhinestones.
For the inside card panel I decorated cream cardstock with a strip of the striped paper and matted it with terra cotta cardstock. I left the panel blank.
I also handmade an envelope from heavy white cover stock and printed a saguaro cactus in the lower left corner. I colored the cactus to complement the garden desert card.
