I created this card based upon my reflections of exploring several botanical gardens in Arizona. The background landscape was all created by hand with lots of masking. I used digital stamps for the cacti, cloud, and woman.
CARD (5.5" tall by 4.25" wide)
I created the base card from tan cardstock and scored it at the top so that my Southwest desert card opens from the bottom. I layered the top panel with spanish orange cardstock and a variegated tan and orange patterned paper. I topped the layers off with a strip of tan cardstock to anchor my imagery.
For the image panel I used a piece of white cardstock to create my desert landscape. I began my desert scene with digital stamps of a barefooted woman with her shoes sitting beside her, saguaro cacti, and a cloud. I masked them and drew in the background landscape by hand. To create the background I used several different masks made from post-its. I sponged in the landscape using a wide range of inks and several mask placements. After removing all of the masks I colored in the digital stamp images using gamsol and colored pencils. I added details and shading to the landscape with colored pencils. As a final touch to the landscape I added a little bird nesting hole to the largest saguaro cactus.
To complete my image panel I matted it on spanish orange cardstock. I affixed the image panel to the card front so that it is popped slightly off the surface. To finish off my card front and add a little bling I embellished it with three amber rhinestones.
For the inside card panel I used a piece of cream cardstock that I decorated with a strip of the variegated patterned paper used on the card front. To complete the panel I matted it with spanish orange cardstock. I left the panel blank.
I also handmade an envelope from heavy white cover stock and used a large saguaro cactus in the lower left corner. I colored the cactus and added the bird nesting hole to complement my card.
