This week our cards are going to the opposite coast of me, sunny Florida, to Barbara. She's been going through some pretty tough times medically. So to bring her a little joy, we're sending in the Hummers.
Now this challenge is right up my alley, I Love Hummers!! I have even been blessed to have had a nest right out my front door and I have held one of the babies. Even now, I am watching a female that has a belly full of eggs. She has been busy collecting cotton the past few days. Just like pregnant women, you can barely see her little feet.
My little hummer has the flowers all to herself.
She's as happy as any bird can be
perched on a twig up in the tree.
Her nest is soft and very tiny
made from spiderwebs and lichens
and lined with cotton.
It's no bigger than a golf ball
filled with 2 little tic tacs.
Soon there will be little chicks
that grow so fast and fill the nest.
Mom will have to find another place to rest.
These cute little hummers will go off on their own,
to find a place that they can call home.
Do you know that once the female has been fertilized and begins building her nest, she chases the male away and has nothing to do with him until it's time to get her next batch of eggs fertilized. The female does everything on her own, building her nest, incubating the eggs and raising the young. The female will have anywhere from 2 to 5 clutches of eggs a year, depending on where she lives. Simply amazing!
The hummer on this card has been stamped with versa mark ink and embossed with silver ep. The c/s is colored with alcohol inks before the stamping. I stamped 2 and cut them both out, with the second part being the wings. She has 2 layers of dimensional adhesive under the full piece and another thin strip under her wings.
I have woven the flourish amongst the lattice piece, attaching the flowers to the top of this. The hummer has her beak in one of the flowers.
I hope Barbara enjoys all the hummers and flowers that come her way. I also wish her a speedy and full recovery!

I love the pop of colour that your flowers bring to this card. The hummingbird looks fabulous too - irridescent is the word, I think. This will be a very treasured card!

Wow, and wow. You've certainly carried your love of the birds onto this card. I like the way you used alcohol inks to create your bird, and the trellis with the flowers is really wonderful. Thanks to your link earlier this year, and a book someone sent me, this is the first time I didn't have to check colouring online!!

Your card is a treasure to be framed!
How great to watch nesting hummingbirds. We witnessed that once at the Tucson outdoor museum but by the time the birds reach the cabin they seem to be full grown and the male just spends all his time keeping the females from the feeders!
