Thanks to Stephanie for selecting CalgaryÂ’s Galleria Arts & Crafts for this weekÂ’s inspiration challenge. ItÂ’s been a showcase for local artisans for years and the store is even more beautiful in real life.
There are many versions of folklore regarding Inukshuks but my favourite is one that they are showing the traveller the way home.
The stamp is one I found years ago in the MichaelÂ’s discount bin & is very similar to the territorial flag of Nunavut. I stamped on confetti white paper, chalked in the square and coloured the star with blender pen and reinker. A dab of Crystal Effects gives a bit of shine.
The Inukshuk itself was two techniques: paper piecing each ‘stone’ in different coloured scrap cardstock then I glued them onto another piece of scrap for cracked glass, which gives them the rocky/cracked polish. The image is raised with thin dimensionals for a modest layer. The paper strips are just woven to frame the centre panel.
I hope you enjoy this wonderful store and draw inspiration from the many talented artisans.

You have given a 3-D affect to your inukshuk with your ink and gloss--wow! Cool weaving, too. Great card! Can't wait to go to the website and have a look.

Awesome job, Arleen! Using the cracked glass is so creative! I really like the woven frame with the confetti cardstock as the bg; gives it a natural feel.
P.S. Love that Pink Angel in your Avatar! She looks like she's having a great time ; )
