Texas Birthday
Added to Favorite

Photo Details
Poster: mamaxsix

This card is for the HYCCT challenge Frilly Paper Ribbon where we were to make a ribbon accent using paper. I don't have any punches that would make a good frilly ribbon so I thought of making a leather fringe (for any Project Runway fans this card is in honor of Victor). I decided a Western themed masculine birthday card might be appreciated by one of the Houston patients we are sending our HYCCT challenge cards to. I made my faux leather fringe by taking a piece of 1 3/4" Early Espresso cs and scored it at 1/2". I distressed the edges using the cutter kit distressing tool then cut ~every 1/4" up to the score line. I then ran the piece through my crimper in 4 different directions to soften up the paper and smoothed it out with my bone folder. Lots of sponging to add more variation of color and my fringe was done. I tried the faux leather technique for the bg...need a bit more practice on this one! My stars were stamped in Versamark then embossed with a mix of ep (black, gold, silver). I then cut out the stars and pressed the whole thing back into the Versamark for an all over extra coat of ep...you can still see the stamping IRL...these were also sponged with some Early Espresso and I took my marker along the edges for more definition. My layers and sentiment are distressed as well. I sewed my fringe onto my card and added a hemp piece across the fringe.
This card is also to honor this week's Queen Julie (justrightdesigns) she does great work and always leaves encouraging comments. I CASEd her layout from this card Leafy Note F4A68 by justwritedesigns at Splitcoaststampers though I'm not sure she'd recognize it in this Western application! I used my faux leather instead of embossing, fringe where her ribbon was and kept the rectangular sentiment. Congratulations to Julie!

Wow, what a great Western look. Your fringe looks amazing, so realistic. I'm not sure how long it took you to finish this, but it's really awesome.
