Growing up near a large city I always imagined Santa and his reindeer flying over the city late at night delivering all of his wonderful goodies. I decided to capture this image on a gift card holder. I've created a beautiful clear night sky with its faint glow from the city lights below. You know it is a special night because I have silhouetted Santa and his reindeer by a full moon above the city skyline. Even the moon has a subtle glow around it.
CARD (5” tall x 4” wide)
Front Image: City skyline with Santa and his reindeer silhouetted by the full moon
Front Sentiment: None
Inside Sentiment: “Merry Christmas”
I constructed the base from light blue cardstock and scored it at the top so that the card opens vertically from the bottom. For the Christmas scene I sponged a variety of inks on white cardstock to create the night sky and matted it with navy blue cardstock. To create the city skyline I stamped the cityscape in black on yellow cardstock and fussy cut it out.
After affixing the cityscape in place I created the moon from a piece of white cardstock and sponged shades of yellow on it. To add depth I also sponged a little of the sky colors on it. I stamped Santa and his reindeer on the moon and affixed it in place. As a finishing touch I sponged yellow around the moon to give the night that moonlit glow.
For the inside of the card I used navy blue cardstock to create a pocket to hold a gift card and decorated it with another moon silhouetting Santa and his reindeer. I printed "Merry Christmas" on a white cardstock panel and sponged ink around the edges to add depth. I then popped the sentiment panel off the surface of the card above the gift card pocket.
I also custom made an envelope specifically for the card and decorated it with Santa and his reindeer silhouetted by the moon.
