Wow were the cakes featured in this week's inspiration challenge from Maggie Austin Cakes ever AMAZING!!! What an artist! Those cakes just looked too pretty to eat (not that I would let that stop me from eating one if I had one in front of me, mind you. lol)
I loved that warm orange-yellow color against the white stairstep designed cake. The design of the cake made me think of one of the recent-past tutorials for the center step card. Once I'd figured out where to cut & score (should have practiced on scrap paper first...oops!), this came together quickly.
I colored some scrap white cs with wild honey distress ink, then cut strips and punched all those butterflies. Glued them down and then slapped on a bunch of gems. Not quite as yummy as that cake, but I'm happy with the finished card anyways. TFL!

I almost chose this cake, too, because of the pretty butterflies in flight. You did a lovely job with creating your design. Aren't those center step cards fun to do? Beautiful card!

Gorgeous card, Katie, from your inspiration. I like your butterflies better than the bees! : ) Love how you chose to use a card with another format than the "normal". Your colors are warm and stunning.

I knew exactly which cake you chose without going to find it. Your substitution of butterflies for bees looks great, and the center step technique was the perfect card.

Very pretty! You chose the bees cake for inspiration, but I'm glad you put butterflies on your card. I can't imagine eating a cake that had bees all over it. Ha! You've got a great stair-step card!
