At our latest SU! Make and Take evening Alex gave out these crackled die cut shapes she'd made. She'd used PTI dies to cut out the flowers and leaf (layered 2 or 3 shapes together) and then applied Glossy Accents to each shape. She allowed them to dry completely and then applied a coat of white Crackle Distress Paint. Once that was dry, she sponged on pale ink. Using white paint means you can make your shapes any colour.
As the ink was pale I was able to sponge on more colour. I applied Pretty in Pink, Perfect Plum and Rose Red inks to the flowers and Old Olive ink to the leaf. I then applied one coat of clear gloss varnish to each shape and allowed them to dry.
I used my Crop-A-Dile to punch holes in the flowers and attached them together with an SU! Antique brad and I added a clear gem. I glued the flower and leaf together using a generous amount of PVA glue - I held the shapes together with a couple of clothes pegs while the glue dried. The shapes turn out really sturdy but are still pliable so you can shape them to add some dimension. The last thing was to glue a brooch pin fitting to the back.
Wow, love the technique, I really enjoyed playing with these shapes! I couldn't wait to get some crackle paint of my own and play some more! I've made a flower pin that I've gussied up my craft tote with. I think a fridge magnet could be next!
