I loved Peggy Sue's challenge because it recalled my first love. Our 'first love' didn't have to be a person. It could be our first attachment to 'something'. I don't have recollections of carrying something with me everywhere I went. But Hal Prescott came to mind.
When I was 7, Hal was my neighbor boy. We rode our bikes all over the neighborhood in Longmont CO playing cowboys and indians or cops and robbers. Hal got golf clubs for his 8th (?) birthday. He wasn't suppose to have them without his Dad. But you know boys. They have to show off for us girls. Hal was showing me his new clubs. I failed to step back far enough and caught the club in my nose and upper lip. I still carry the scar.
Incidently, a week after I no longer had to eat everything through a straw we were back out on our bikes. I hit a chunk of pavement sending me over the handlebars. Broke my nose again :-)
